Skiing With The Kids

If you’ve skied, it’s likely that you’ve witnessed the priceless mixture of pride and terror that parents display when watching their kids take off down the slopes for the first time. It’s a unique bonding moment in the life of a family, and one of those “collective common memories” that can be regarded as a yearly benchmark of kids’ development. It’s a classic family bonding experience.

National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) states that 50 percent of the nation’s skiers are families with children at home. Adding that there is s steady increase in visits by first-timers and beginners.

Just as in all travel segments, parents are taking the kids and extended family along with them on ski and winter trips. People don’t have as much time off as they used to, and so they have everybody come along with they go. These groups often include mixed families that may include skiers of varying abilities, or some who may not ski at all.

Ski vacations blend well into the multi-generational experience: everyone can do their own thing during the day and then have dinner together and share their experiences. It’s not uncommon at all for some to be skiing different areas of the mountain while others are taking lessons, while still others are shopping, snowmobiling or having a spa treatment.

Finding the right resort, accommodations and amenities to fit a family can be challenging. Using a qualified travel agent, familiar with ski resorts, is your guarantee of a fun and hassle-free vacation.
