Today’s consumers demand travel value. A travel agent provides the proper counseling to ensure that consumers receive the best prices, highest-quality products and finest services. It is imperative to uncover the client’s needs and wants, and then match those with appropriate products and available budgets. Through personal travel experience, ongoing professional education and customer feedback, travel agents provide personal insight and service to each client.
Too often, price is a primary motivator. However, if the travel experience does not meet the expectations for the consumer the entire transaction is a failure. A true travel consultant knows the difference between “cheap” and “value.” Cutting through the clutter of choices saves time and money. Travel agents are an impartial, independent source recommending options according to the traveler’s needs. Travel agents work with client’s budgets to give the most possible value within their budget restraints.
Keeping abreast of supplier’s services and stability is another daily job for a quality travel agent. Offering clients products that will “deliver on its promises” should be the agent’s primary goal. The world of travel is rapidly changing and knowing which suppliers can and do provide a quality experience for each traveler is paramount.
A common misconception is that it costs more to use a travel agent. Using a travel agent actually saves the consumer. Not only does it not cost consumers to use a travel agent’s talent and imagination (fees are paid by the suppliers the client uses), it saves time and money by finding the right product at the right price. Choosing the wrong vacation not only costs the consumer money, but also robs them of precious vacation time.
It is impossible for an individual to keep up on current trends in the travel industry. What could be worse than after spending interminable hours on the internet searching for the perfect vacation, only to find out when you arrive the property is under major renovation and the swimming pool is closed over a major holiday, or that the beautiful photos they have on their web site were taken in 1959, or perhaps finding the fantastically priced stateroom you booked for your 25th anniversary cruise has only bunk beds.
Travel today is about choices, convenience and value. A professional travel agent walks the client through the incredible maze of products and suppliers available to today’s traveler.
Remember, without a travel agent, you’re on your own.
